My Trip to Munich

Ferry ride on the way to Munich

How did I get there? Some folks I met back in Basel told me about Flixbus, a bus service that operates here in Europe. I got to Munich from Zurich for 15 euros. We had to ride a ferry on the way, which was pretty sweet.

Where did I stay? Euro Youth Hotel. This was one of the highest rated hostels on HostelWorld and it didn't disappoint! Other than the inconvenience of having to switch rooms every night I was there (3), it was a fantastic experience. The rooms were clean, spacious and the bar downstairs was a great way to meet people or chill out. The best part? 2.50 beers from 430-830p. The location was very convenient, right next to the bus / train station. Some of the immediate surrounding areas didn't feel the safest, but it wasn't too bad.

The only thing about this location is that it was a little bit of a walk to the city center - but, I quickly found out that the city center is flooded with tourists. To get to the hipster parts of Munich, you had to walk through the touristy area. I wish I had more time to explore the neighborhoods, I heard there were some cool time.

Where / How did I work? I found this amazing coworking space called MATES. Their day passes were a bit pricey at like 41 euros, but the space was beautiful and I met some great people. The location was awesome, tucked away down a neighborhood street.

What did I eat? Whew! I was out of Switzerland, back to a place where food was affordable! The first thing I had was a döner for 4 euros. I also went to the touristy Hofbräuhaus München, because you have to at least once. I had some traditional weiner schnitzel and a dunkel beer, pretty delicious ;)

Best experience? The coworking space was one of the highlights of this trip, the vibe was on-point and the people there were awesome. The other great time I had was meeting some cool people in the hostel. Great conversations & great beer.

Would I go back / recommend? Yes, I think there's a lot more to explore and I didn't get to go to some of the more "hipster" neighborhoods like I would have liked. Apparently, the college town is also quite nice.
